Homelab Updates 03/12/25

Below are the updates and points from my last updates with additional comments/ updates where needed. Updates and new points are in blue.

  • Reconfigure Network/Server closet
    • Still waiting on the time to move the racks and reconfigure the mounting of those. 2 racks are currently in there and I need to mount pcs and switches in them as well as PDUs.
    • Relocate power outlet and potentially have one more power outlet dropped for the inside of the cabinet.
  • Ethernet Drops
    • Still pending on my 4 ethernet drops. Temporary solutions are in place.
  • Cooling
    • Server closet is getting a little warm for my comfort with me needing to turn on the heat in my house. CPU temps are hovering around 100 degrees C which is a bit too high.
  • Major Changes
    • Sluberski Homelab access site.
      • I have decided to start practicing HTML, Java Script, CSS, and Cloudflare workers so I have created a GitLab repository for my access website and deployed a config. The new site is at the same address and the repo is laid out to include 3 DEV branches, a STG branch, and a PROD branch to organize the development.
    • New Public Dashboard
      • If you have access to my homelab through the forms on the access site, I will give you access to the new dashboard. There are 2 different levels of access, Full Access and Median Access. Full access is for those who have VPN access to my homelab and Median access is for those who do not and only have access to my services.
      • This is a great new addition as it is easy to setup boards and users.
  • Research
    • Researching a new tool for automating the Media Aggregation stack.
      • Having trouble with this since I do not use RAID or have enough disks to run RAID. The endgame solution I believe will work is to create a disk pool that uses SMB using TruNAS Scale or Unraid and then mounting said shares to the linux machine. The only problem is link speed to the switch and plex machine. For this to be viable, I would want a 10G connection between them so that It doesn’t take a year to move plex data.

There is also the opportunity for me to allow you to self-host your own services on my Homelab now that I have 5Gig internet. I have plenty of compute and plenty of storage for almost anyone’s needs. There are a few requirements that I need to put into place to ensure that everything stays secure and there are no issues.

Keep a close eye on this site and the Access site for more information on running your own services.
